Originally called the Falmouth Amateur Operatic Society, we then became the Falmouth Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society in 1984 before changing again, to the current Falmouth Theatre Company, in 2005.
Miss Hook of Holland was our first production in 1927, performed at the former Drill Hall in Berkeley Vale. With sell-out audiences every night, an extra performance was put on.
The society was able to stage ambitious productions from early on, thanks in part to the use of the former Grand Theatre in Market Street, which was the only purpose-built theatre west of Plymouth, and so we were able to bring in professional scenery. Our first show at the Grand was Veronique in 1928 and so FTC celebrated by staging the local premiere of Annie Get Your Gun in 1952. Since then, the company have produced a healthy catalogue of shows which have included Oklahoma, The King and I, South Pacific, The Sound of Music and more recently The Boyfriend, Little Shop of Horrors and Hello Dolly.
After a few years without a production, in 2023 we relaunched with Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at the Princess Pavilion which took audiences by storm and has reignited the community's passion for high standard, locally-produced theatre.
